Feast of Weeks Calculations

Many start counting feast of weeks after Passover and unleavened bread, here is the problem “bread” according to Leviticus 23 chapter no one must eat bread of the grains that make the bread until it is brought for a weave offering, so we understand barley which is the grain used to make bread for Passover because wheat is not good until late May, is ripened at the end of march corresponding with the new year, if we wait 15 days to present the wave offering then start counting then we sin, because unleavened bread requires bread which the laws forbid until we present it, now we understand the wave offering has to be done before unleavened bread, so they could eat bread during unleavened bread. this is why we in the Qodash Nation Community we do the wave offering before Passover and unleavened bread

‍ ‍4. The Feast of Weeks and the Wave Sheaf Principle

A significant point of interpretation concerns the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot) and its relationship to the wave sheaf offering (Omer).

According to Leviticus 23:10–16:

  • No harvested grain was to be consumed until the wave sheaf was presented before the Lord

  • The counting of seven weeks begins from the day of the wave sheaf offering

Interpretive Framework

Within the observational calendar understanding described here, the wave sheaf offering is closely connected to the early spring agricultural cycle following the beginning of the month of Abib.

In this view:

  • The counting toward the Feast of Weeks begins after the establishment of the new month of Abib

  • The wave sheaf offering occurs during the early part of the harvest season

  • Consumption of new grain is not permitted until the offering is completed

This preserves the sequence of the law:

  1. New month of Abib is established by the new moon

  2. Barley reaches aviv stage and is ready for harvest

  3. Wave sheaf is presented before consumption of new grain

  4. Counting of seven weeks begins from the wave sheaf offering

5. Order and Consistency of the Law

A central concern in this framework is maintaining the internal consistency of the Torah’s instructions. The prohibition against consuming new grain prior to the wave sheaf offering establishes a clear order of operations:

  • The offering must precede consumption

  • The sanctification of firstfruits governs agricultural use

  • The counting of Pentecost is anchored in the wave sheaf event

Therefore, any calendar interpretation must preserve the sequence:

Firstfruits offering → permission to eat → counting of weeks begins

This ensures that the Feast of Weeks remains properly aligned with the agricultural and ritual requirements of the law.
