A PEOPLE THAT WORSHIP IDOLS OF THE NATIONS
One of the main reasons Israel went into captivity was because we abandoned the God of Israel and adopted the religions, customs, and idols of other nations. In Book of Jeremiah 2:11, the prophet says, “Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory.” This means Israel lost its true identity and covenant by turning to foreign worship and traditions instead of keeping God’s commandments. We believe this spiritual rebellion led directly to the curses and punishments placed upon Israel.
We also connect this to Book of Deuteronomy 28:64, where Moses warned that Israel would be scattered among all nations and would serve “other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known.” In Hebrew Israelite doctrine, this is understood as Israel being forced or influenced in captivity to adopt the religions and systems of the nations they were scattered among. We believe this identifies the Israelites today because Black, Native, and scattered descendants lost their original heritage, language, names, and biblical customs, and instead learned the traditions and worship practices of the nations that ruled over them.
